Old embarrassing websites I created (1)

I have to confess I was once a Def Leppard fan. I have to confess this before I can show a website I created in 1999. Back in 1999 Def Leppard was about to release an album called Euphoria and I was really looking forward to it. They had released an album in 1996 which I really liked, and the new album was supposed to be even better. So I build a website that would contain their entire discography. All releases categorised with all the songs, fast to browse and maintain.
Only problem was that I had no dynamic webserver available. So I had to try something new, to not get a static website. Ajax was not there yet and Flash could not handle xml yet. So I build a java applet that fetches all the data from the server side using xml. I did want to use an applet for displaying information, because it would have looked awful. So I used html. To generate html I used javascript. Javascript asks the applet for the data and then generates pages. Because JavaScript is really slow (especially back then), each time a page has been generated it will be cached in the java applet, resulting in a pretty fast website.
Unfortunately the album of Def Leppard really sucked (you can find disappointed comments by me all over the web). And I did not want to release the website. But now is a good time to dig it up again, for historical reasons. It only works on Windows with a Java virtual machine installed, I’ve left all my embarrassing fan-boy comments in :)
